Scrambling
Lakes Outdoor Experience offer scrambling courses in the Lake District, North Wales (Snowdonia National Park) and Scotland. LOE adventure scrambling courses fall into two categories - an introduction to leading scrambles (learn to scramble course) or guided scrambling days.
- learn skills to keep you safe in the mountains
- get more out of your hill days
- push your limits in the hills
Scrambling sits in between hill walking and rock climbing. It takes a hill walking day to another level by getting off the track and scrambling vertically up the side of a mountain or crag on ground that is steeper that a normal path but not so steep as to become a rock climb. Scrambling ranges from grade 1 (easy scrambles) through to grade 3 where the terrain get a little tougher, steeper and more exposed.
A scrambling course with Lakes Outdoor Experience can either be a guided scrambling day, on a scramble of your choice or you can choose a learn to scramble course; where we will teach you how to do it for yourself so you can go out and scramble as much as you want thus adding a new uphill dimension to your hill walking activities.
On a learn to scramble course LOE will teach you all the skills you need in order to go out safely into the mountains and tackle those classic scrambling routes for yourself.
You will learn basic ropework techniques such as tying on and short roping through to more technical skills for assessing and selecting suitable belays, placing running belays where needed and developing those judgement skills to decide when you can move together or pitch parts of the route.
Are you new to scrambling or unsure if you will be comfortable on the terrain but you want to experience an exciting day out in the mountains? Why not book on one of our guided scrambling days, have a route chosen for you by our experienced instructors and be safely guided on a route to have a memorable mountain adventure.
You’ve done some easy grades and you want to experience a higher grade scramble? Book a guided scrambling day and you can name the route or we can pick a route for you based on your previous experience and what you want to achieve.
