Long Scar, Pike O Blisco, Wrynose Pass, Little Langdale.

Long Scar above Wrynose Pass is one of our more "out of the way" introductory climbing venues located high up above one of The Lake District's most famous; or notorious, high mountain pass roads - Wrynose Pass.

Getting to Long Scar in itself is an exciting journey! Driving from Little Langdale, the narrow single track road climbs up the side of Wrynose Bottom with a precipitous drop to the floor of the valley below. Eventually, one arrives at the crest of Wrynose pass where we park up and begin the walk in to Long Scar - just shy of three quarters of a mile distant and 500 feet higher. The walk in takes a maximum of half an hour. You feel like you are in the middle of nowhere but the views are amazing!

Once at the foot of the crag, you can take a break and have a drink whilst your instructor sets up your climbing ropes on some of the crag's many climbing routes.

You'll all be provided with helmets and harnesses and the idea will be to get you all climbing as quickly as possible to allow you the opportunity to make the most of climbing at this great venue.

There are many rock climbs to be attempted at Long Scar and we will try to give you the opportunity to try as many as possible during your introductory Rock Climbing Session. The venue is great for children and adults alike and ideal for families, stag or Hen groups wanting to try Rock Climbing for the very first time.

Long Scar is not somewhere we visit often, but for the extra effort of getting there, the quality of the rock climbing and the views are truly worth it!

The meeting point for Rock Climbing Sessions at Long Scar is on the B5343 at the rear of the Skelwith Bridge Hotel (LA22 9NJ for Satnav purposes). Our instructors will meet you there and you will follow them the additional 1/2 hour drive to the venue parking. The instructor will then provide you with equipment and guide you in to the crag.

Frequently asked questions.

• What equipment is provided as part of an Introductory Rock Climbing session? Answer - as part of your fee per person, you are provided with a helmet & harness, so that you can get kitted up like the people in these photos! We "can" also provide walking boots if you do not have your own; or we can direct you to an outdoor shop in Ambleside who hire out proper Rock Climbing shoes at typically £10 per pair per day. We provide all of the ropes and climbing equipment for your Rock Climbing session.

• What do I need to bring? Answer – we suggest you bring plenty of warm clothing and waterproofs – just in case it’s a little cold or damp. If you have them - please bring your walking boots! Also, bring some snacks and a drink to keep you “topped up” during your Rock Climbing session.

• How long does a half day Introductory Rock Climbing session last? Answer - up to four hours.

• Are there any discounts on your price? Answer - yes. Our price per person for a minimum group size of two is £50.00 each, for three to six persons, the price is £45.00 each. Bring more than six persons and the price falls by a further £5 to £40 each, bring more than eleven persons and the price falls by a further £5 to our minimum price per person of £35.00. Children under 16 also receive a discount. Please contact us to enquire.

• We've booked & paid, but the weather's too cold or wet for our session to run. What happens to our payment? Answer - If we are unable to run your session due to the conditions, then you can either reschedule to another time; or, receive a full refund of your payment.
• I've never been Outdoor Rock Climbing before. I'm excited but scared at the same time. Will I be able to do it? Answer - don't worry, you'll be well looked after in expert hands and you don't have to do anything you don't want to!
