Posted on 8 November, 2018

We have one remaining Navigation Skills Training Course to fill this year and this course is running on the weekend of December 1st & 2nd 2018.

The course will be run in the Kentmere area of the Southern Lake District. We will meet in Staveley at 09:00 each day and finish by 5pm. Day one is spent on a relatively low lying area of moorland gaining basic map reading & Navigation Skills. Day two will be spent amongst higher mountains forming part of the Kentmere Horseshoe where it is quite possible that you will have the option to bag at least 2 of the well known "Wainwright" summits.

During the course, the following aspect of Navigation Skills Training will be covered.

Identifying map features

Orientating the map

Calculating & locating 4, 6 & 8 figure Grid References

Identifying Tick off features during route planning & using Linear/guideline features

Measuring distance on the map & translating to distance on the ground

Map to compass (Grid to mag) & Compass to map (Mag to grid)

Walking on a bearing/ using back bearings

Naismith’s rule (calculating time according to distance & height gain/loss)

Aiming off

Attack points

"Boxing" around an obstacle

The cost of this course remains a very reasonable £80.00 per person for the two day course. We do hope that you can join us on December 1st & 2nd 2018. Contact us here to book your place.
