New Year Introductory Kayaking Sessions in The Lake District. December 29th, 2018.

You wouldn't expect that many Outdoor Activity businesses to be operating in the run up to New Year, but we have been out and last weekend ran one of our popular Introductory Kayaking Sessions in The Lake District.

Mates Nick & Dan had originally booked for a possible river trip, but Dan had no experience of moving water so Nick wisely decided this would not be a good idea.

Iain had met the pair at Ambleside with that initial objective in mind, but we quickly changed plan to a flat water Kayaking Session and drove over Kirkstone Pass to Ullswater - a much nicer and more interesting proposition than Windermere!

Ullswater was much more sheltered than Windermere would have been with a strong westerly wind blowing today, but this was already starting to die down as we put on to the lake.

Iain taught the guys some basic kayaking skills; and then off we went on a journey around the southern part of the lake. There is much of interest to see on Ullswater, the views of the surrounding mountains are outstanding! We visited the local Steamer Pier and an island before kayaking back up the eastern shore of the lake - visiting the mouth of Goldrill beck for some moving water experience before heading back to shore, packing up and getting a hot drink.

During our Kayak exploration of Ullswater, the wind dropped completely and the sun came out. The weather was already unseasonably mild for the time of year. We really couldn't have asked for better conditions!
